A free crochet turkey pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home!
This cute and free crochet turkey pattern is the third square in my Fall Squares Blanket pattern! This Fall / Thanksgiving themed blanket has 9 unique squares that together make an adorable addition to your home!
Get ready to add a touch of whimsy and cuteness to your Thanksgiving decor with this delightful free crochet Turkey Square crochet pattern! This adorable design is bound to bring smiles to your face as you hook away.
The turkey body is round and plump giving the classic silhouette of a turkey. The two round, white eyes have black centers provided by safety eyes, giving the bird a somewhat surprised and endearing expression.
One of the most striking elements of the square is the turkey’s feathered plumage which fans out behind its body. The feathers are depicted in a vivid array of autumnal hues, including bright oranges, deep reds, and sunny yellows. These colorful feathers are spread out over the body of the turkey.
Adding to the charm of the design are two small, orange feet playfully dangling from the turkey’s round body, giving it a sense of movement, as if it’s just taken a little step.
The crochet turkey square radiates warmth and a festive spirit, making it a perfect piece for autumn or Thanksgiving-themed decorations or projects!

The turkey square is a fun one! The base square is very simple – the center circle is made with brown yarn and then when switching to cream yarn, the first round of “squaring off” your circle is worked in the back loops only. This provides an unused front loop in order to add our feathers on at the end.
The feathers are simple shell stitches that are crocheted right onto the square using the unused front loops. So easy!
The head and neck of the turkey is crocheted separately and then once the eyes, beak and embroidered snood are added, it is sewn to the front of the square. The feet are crocheted separately and then sewn to the bottom of the body.
If you wanted to add wings to your turkey I would recommend using the wing pattern from my previous Chick Square which is part of my Easter Squares Blanket.
If you didn’t want to use safety eyes for your pattern you could simply embroider the turkey’s eyes instead. I love the addition to the white behind his eyes which gives him some real personality! He looks pretty anxious and excitable with those whites showing!
My Fall Blanket uses Red Heart Super Saver* which is a medium worsted weight acrylic yarn. Very economical and with plentiful color options! You can certainly substitute your favorite worsted weight yarn – Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn!, Red Heart With Love, Paintbox Simply Aran, Vanna’s Choice, Big Twist Value, Caron Simply Soft, Caron One Pound and so many more! Raid your yarn stash – even mix and match to get your favorite fall colors!
