Boy, did I have fun designing this square!  I was so looking forward to making this one and definitely had some ideas on what she should look like!  I knew she needed to have a fun straw-like hat and braids and that she needed to be cute as a button.  I am so happy with the end result!

She is really easier than she looks, too! All of my squares begin with rounds of double crochet stitches and by working those rounds in the half in tan yarn for her face and half in yellow for her hat we have the center of the square complete. Then simply change up colors to the cream background in order to square it off.

Once the square is complete you will crochet the hat brim, cheeks, eyes, nose, flowers and braids separately and then sew to the front of the square.

The hat brim has single strands of yarn added as fringe to create a straw hat look a like. So easy!

The braids are made by crocheting a small base then adding long strands of yarn to the base as fringe and then the strands are braided together.  The base of the braids is sewn under the hat brim so it isn’t visible. If you have never made yarn braids before I have a complete video tutorial for this process.

I embroidered her smile in black yarn and added x’s to each edge of her smile for the perfect finishing touch.

Pair this square with the adorable matching Scarecrow Square which together would make a fun pillow or decorative wall hangings!
