Pilgrim Man Square process

The base square for the crochet pilgrim granny square is very simple – the center double crochet circle is half black and half cream and brown.  The brown stitches are worked in the back loop only which leaves an unused front loop to come back and add the chain stitches for the beard.  Such an easy way to create amazing texture on your square!

I am working part of the first round of “squaring off” in black which allows the hat to be squared off on the top two corners of the hat.

Pilgrim Square Buckle

The hat brim, hat band, buckle, eyes and mouth are crocheted separately and then sewn to the front of the crochet pilgrim square at the end.

My crochet pilgrim and Fall Blanket use Red Heart Super Saver* which is a medium worsted weight acrylic yarn.  Very economical and with plentiful color options! You can certainly substitute your favorite worsted weight yarn – Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn!, Red Heart With Love, Paintbox Simply Aran, Vanna’s Choice, Big Twist Value, Caron Simply Soft, Caron One Pound and so many more!  Raid your yarn stash – even mix and match to get your favorite fall colors!
