Crochet Gingerbread Man Pattern Details

The granny squares for this series of Christmas granny square patterns work up to a large 14″ square.  Perfect for pillows or to mix-and-match for an adorable winter Christmas-themed throw!  These squares would also make wonderful wall hangings for Christmas decoration.

I still haven’t decided just how many squares will end up in my final project.  Currently working on square #6 – I am so excited for you to see them!

This crochet gingerbread man square pattern starts out as a circle using double crochet stitches and then the circle is squared off so you can easily join and sew squares together.

You will be working surface slip stitches around the outside edge of the gingerbread man’s face as well as for his smile.

At first I couldn’t decide whether his cheeks should be pink or red.  I finally decided on red to match my previous squares.  Which one is your favorite?

You could use large buttons or safety eyes for his eyes if you would rather not crochet them.

Both my snowman and reindeer squares have their faces tilted to the side but I decided not to do that my gingerbread man. I think that will add some interest to my finished blanket by having some of my squares a little different. However, you could certainly tilt your gingerbread man square’s face to the side as well. You would just need to change where you are working your surface slip stitches for his smile. I would recommend  placing your cheeks and eyes where you want them and then working your smile from that placement.

I am using Red Heart With Love* yarn which is a medium weight #4 acrylic worsted weight yarn.  One of my favorite economical yarns to use.  However, change it up to your favorite.  This pattern is a great way to use up your stash, too!

I love these larger squares!! Question – have you tried doubling the appliques and making the squares reversible? I’m wondering if back to back appliques would work

I haven’t tried that Nancy but I don’t see any reason that wouldn’t work. Making it thicker would also make it warmer as well! If you try it let me know how it goes. So happy you like the squares 🌸💕
