This crochet snowman pattern is a free granny square pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home!
I love making cute Christmas blankets! They make great gifts for everyone – who doesn’t love receiving an adorable Christmas themed throw to cuddle under?
Granny squares are so versatile, too! This large 14″ square would make a great pillow or make several and join together for a fun snowman themed throw for your holiday decor this year.
My cute snowman base for this square may look a little familiar to you – I used my Snowman Hot Pad as the base for this square. And, if you want another matching snowman you can check out my crochet Snowman Towel Topper as well. Both are just adorable!
You can also check out the Reindeer Granny Square, Gingerbread Man Granny Square, Penguin Granny Square, Polar Bear Granny Square, Elf Granny Square, Santa Granny Square, Mrs. Claus Square and the Peppermint Candy Man Square which are also free crochet patterns on the blog.
Crochet Snowman Pattern Granny Square Details
This crochet snowman pattern starts out as a circle and then the circle is squared off so you can easily join and sew squares together.
I am using Red Heart With Love* yarn which is a medium weight #4 worsted weight acrylic yarn. One of my favorite economical yarns to use. However, change it up to your favorite. This pattern is a great way to use up your stash, too!
*This post contains affiliate links. You can click on any yarn or material highlighted to purchase. I will receive a small commission if you purchase but it won’t cost you any extra!
Instead of crocheting the snowman’s eyes you could use safety eyes or buttons instead. However, I don’t recommend buttons if gifting to a baby.
I love the ear muffs rather than a more traditional snowman hat but you could certainly make a hat instead if you don’t change colors that last round before squaring off your circle. Sew the hat to the top of his head for a unique variation!
Do you have any recommendations for my upcoming squares? I haven’t decided yet how many squares I will be including but so far have ideas for 6 or so. Let me know if you have any great ideas – I love hearing from my readers!
Here are all of my snowmen crochet patterns (so far!) I hope you enjoy them.
