This Black Cat Crochet Pattern is a free crochet towel topper pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home featuring a cute black cat ready to pounce on a fun and playful spider.
I love cats and have a fun cat at home that loves to pounce on anything and everything!
Sarah at Repeat Crafter Me recently shared a photo of her Black Kitty & Spider C2C Throw and it so absolutely adorable it inspired me to design this towel topper. I mean who can resist a cute kitty waiting for a creepy crawler spider to pounce on?
Works up so quickly in scrap amounts of yarn, too!
Black Cat Crochet Pattern Towel Topper Details
I am slowly but surely working through a year’s worth of towel topper patterns and I had so much fun designing this one. This towel topper would be so cute for the fall but if you love cats as much as I do you can make this one year-round friendly by skipping the spider and changing up the different colors. You could even coordinate with your kitty to make an adorable cat towel topper!
All of my towel topper patterns can be tackled by an adventurous beginner. The cat and main body of the spider are worked in standard increase rounds of single crochet. The legs on the spider are going to be the only “tricky” part of this pattern. I have a complete photo and video tutorial available for my crochet spider appliqué on the blog to help you.
I made my black cat crochet pattern towel topper with a combination of Red Heart With Love and Red Heart Super Saver* worsted weight yarn but use whatever you have on hand – even cotton yarn. Perfect scrap project!
I have several towel toppers now that utilize a hidden 3″ ring* which allows the towel to be removable. I purchase my rings from Amazon* but you can substitute with inexpensive plastic shower rings, wood rings or even elastic hair ties. All have been used successfully by other makers.

I also purchased a complete set of safety eyes and noses from Amazon as well. You could certainly choose to embroider those details instead. I wish I could have found extra small wiggle eyes that I could have sewn to my spider. I used glue-on eyes and I am a little concerned that they are going to be constantly falling off with use. A better long-term option would be to embroider eyes on yours. However, if you find a sew on option please let me know!
