A crochet towel topper with a hidden ring and fun boho style tassels is a free crochet pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home! This towel topper works up quickly & easily with scrap amounts of yarn. A great project for gifts or to brighten up your own kitchen.
When I designed my Gnome Towel Topper, I discovered the wonders of using a simple plastic ring crocheted into a towel topper making the towel removable for easy washing. And I haven’t looked back since! After several seasonal designs I wanted to make one that could be used year round. Although, I will make the argument that if you make the Gnome Towel Topper in season specific colors you could certainly display him year-round! 😉
And since I fell in love with the boho tasseled edging I used in my Luxe Boho Christmas Stocking I wanted to use it again for this project. I love the unique look of the tassels but they are certainly optional and the topper looks great without tassels as well.
This towel topper is so customizable – add holiday seasonal buttons or change the colors to make season specific.
I used Red Heart’s With Love* medium (4) weight acrylic yarn for this project – one of my favorite economical yarns. And a great choice since I had a lot of scraps left over from various projects last year. However, you could certainly use any medium weight yarn you prefer or have on hand – either cotton or acrylic.

The towel topper is crocheted in two pieces – the hanging tab is crocheted directly onto the plastic 3″ ring and then a “skirt” is crocheted separately and sewn to the hanging tab.
I used a 3″ plastic ring I purchase from Amazon – they are economical and sturdy. However, you could certainly use inexpensive shower curtain rings or even elastic hair bands if you so wish.
These are going to work up quickly so they make fantastic last-minute gifts or would also be great additions to a craft fair or bazaar.
