This American Flag Placemat Crochet Pattern is a free C2C (corner to corner) crochet pattern at Nana’s Crafty Home!
With Memorial Day and the 4th of July just around the corner I wanted to design something patriotic for my holiday table. This American Flag crochet placemat and napkin ring will add the perfect touch to any picnic, BBQ or party you have planned this year!
Made with the mini corner to corner (c2c) crochet technique which is the half double crochet c2c technique. I wanted to get the right amount of red and white stripes and with the double crochet c2c it ended up being just too large for a placemat.
If you aren’t familiar with the c2c technique I have several videos you may find helpful —
Basic C2C corner to corner technique in double crochet
How to read patterns and graphs for C2C
For this pattern I used half double crochet instead of double crochet. Essentially the same with just some minor adjustments. If you would like to take a look at my complete photo and video tutorial for the mini c2c technique you can find it here.
For the yarn I decided upon Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton! This is absolutely one of my favorite cotton yarns — so soft! However, you can certainly use any cotton yarn you have on hand. In fact, I think you would be fine with acrylic for this pattern as well as long as you weren’t putting anything too hot on it. You wouldn’t want all of your work to melt!

Even though the placement has the same number of stripes as the American Flag I just couldn’t seem to find the space for 50 stars. This really is supposed to only be a representation of the Flag, right? I am going to call if folk art…?
The stars are made with a modified corner to corner technique and you can find a complete photo and video tutorial here.
If you just want to make the napkin ring, it works up super quickly and even on its own adds a special touch to your place setting!
