Looking for a wonderful decoration and a last minute Fourth of July crochet pattern? With just a few more days until Independence Day (4th of July here in the US) you still have plenty of time to make up several of these adorable patriotic gnome pot holders.
Made with just scrap amounts of yarn and simple crochet stitches, these fun and whimsical Americana themed hot pads will be the focus of attention in your kitchen.
Crochet Patriotic Gnome Hot Pad Pattern Details
The Uncle Sam Americana themed hot pad is worked from the top down starting with the main body of the hat worked in turned rows to create the stripes. Working rows of simple stitches worked from larger to smaller stitches creates a hat that naturally gets smaller on one end.
Working on the smaller end of the hat body you will crochet the brim and then the beard creating an opening for the gnome’s nose in the center of the beard.
Then you will crochet your nose, moustache pieces and stars separately. I have a complete photo and video tutorial to help you with the stars if needed. Then all of the pieces are assembled and sewn together. So quick and easy!
And this pattern doesn’t have to be just for the 4th of July! Get creative with colors for year round gnome fun. If you made the hat red and added a Christmas themed applique to your hat it would be perfect for your Christmas holiday decor as well.
I am using Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn which is a medium worsted weight #4 acrylic yarn. Be aware that under very high heat acrylic yarn can scorch or melt so if you are going to be using as a functional hot pad you may want to switch up to a cotton yarn.
