This crochet star applique is a free crochet pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home!
I am working on some 4th of July crochet pattern designs that I will be releasing over the next couple of weeks. These projects needed the addition of an easy crochet star applique to get the stars and stripes theme I was going for.
Crochet Star Applique pattern details
I played around with a few ideas and ended up with these little mini crochet stars. They really are so very easy & quick.
These mini stars would make a great addition to so many different projects. Think coasters, cozies, baby blankets, hats and so much more! I think they would be the perfect embellishment to add to my Christmas Tree Stand Decor pattern instead of using embroidery and buttons as decoration. They would also make cute little Christmas tree ornaments for a miniature tree as well.
This simple pattern starts out with a magic circle and then working slip stitches, chains and single crochet stitches into your magic circle to make your star in just one round! If you don’t like using a magic circle you could chain and slip stitch to form a ring as well. Either option makes a great star. I do prefer the magic circle as it is so much easier to pull it tightly closed and eliminate any gap in the center.
You can adjust the size of your star simply by using a larger or smaller crochet hook and thicker or smaller yarn as well if you needed stars of different sizes.
Let your imagination run wild on colors, too! Use up your scrap yarn and add stars of various colors for a fun look.
I have a complete video tutorial for these stars you can find here or you can also watch the video on YouTube as well. (Subscribe to my YouTube Channel to get notified whenever I post a new video).
I am using cotton yarn in my photos which has great stitch definition but acrylic yarn will work just fine as well.

Abbreviations:
MC = magic circle
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
Make a MC (or as an alternative ch 4 and sl st to form a ring), (ch 2, sc in second ch from hook, sl st in ring) 5 times.
Fasten off. Use ends to sew to your project.
Note: I do recommend that when you are sewing these to your project that you only tack them on rather than sew them on. This allows the points to keep their shape. If you sew around the outside edge the star points have a tendency of rounding and they end up looking more flower like than star like. Weave in your ends into the project you are sewing your stars to rather than into the star as well.
