American Flag Placemat C2C Free Crochet Pattern

Now is the time for summer picnics, BBQs, fireworks and gatherings!  With the 4th of July just around the corner this American Flag placemat and matching napkin ring would make the perfect addition to your patriotic table decor!

American Flag Crochet Pattern Details

This American Flag placemat is crocheted with the mini corner to corner (c2c) crochet technique which is the half double crochet c2c technique. I wanted to get the right amount of red and white stripes and with the double crochet c2c it ended up being just too large for a placemat.

I wouldn’t consider this a beginner c2c project with all of those color changes.  However, it would be a great crochet project for an advanced beginner who wants to practice color changes.  Smaller projects are great for practice before you move on to larger, more complex projects like my Sunflower Daze Throw.

Ready to dig deeper into corner to corner crochet and master this versatile technique? Our Ultimate Guide to C2C Crochet: Techniques and Tips is the foundational c2c resource on the blog, packed with everything beginners and for those that need a c2c refresher! Supplies for the American Flag Placemat Crochet Pattern

For the yarn I decided upon Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton which is a medium #4 worsted weight yarn. This is absolutely one of my favorite cotton yarns — so soft! However, you can certainly use any cotton yarn you have on hand. In fact, I think you would be fine with acrylic for this pattern as well as long as you weren’t putting anything too hot on it. You wouldn’t want all of your work to melt!

The approximate finished size of my American Flag placemat is 17 1/2” wide x 13” tall which makes it the perfect size for a placemat or a even as a wall hanging to show off your American pride for Independence Day or any patriotic holidays!

I wanted to have the same look for my stars as the placemat so I developed a modified c2c star pattern.  I have a complete video and photo tutorial for my stars on the blog.  Subscribe to my YouTube Channel to get notified whenever I post a new video.

The stars are on the larger side so even though the placemat has the same number of stripes as the American Flag I wasn’t able to fit 50 stars.  However, I also have a mini star pattern and tutorial – you won’t be able to fit 50 but definitely quite a few more.
