The Sea Life C2C Blanket is a free corner to corner crochet pattern for a fun sea themed graphgan by Nana’s Crafty Home!
The Sea Life crochet blanket is made up of a total of 13 squares with 12 FREE crochet graph patterns provided! I made 1 additional Fish C2C square for my blanket in different colors.
My Sea Life crochet blanket features a large whale for the center of the blanket. I wanted him to be the central focus of my blanket. However, you could decide to replace the whale c2c square with 4 of the smaller squares instead.
This sea life crochet blanket is so versatile! You could decide to make all fish squares in different colors or a different combination of squares – it’s entirely up to you! If you had a mermaid and sea turtle lover mix and match squares to make a truly one-of-a kind blanket.
This blanket is a fantastic way to use up your stash, too! This is a fun way to use up scrap amounts of yarn for each square as well.
Add a pillow to match your blanket – the whale square ends up being 18″x18″ which would make a wonderful addition and the perfect set.
These squares would make fun summer wall hangings, too! So many different things you can do with these squares and I love how quickly they work up – each make a fantastic evening project for quick gratification.
Sea Life Crochet Blanket Squares

Each square is crocheted using the Mini (hdc) Corner to Corner (c2c) Crochet color work technique. Using hdc c2c, my finished blanket ended up at 41″ x 41″. If you wanted a larger finished blanket, use the standard dc c2c technique.
If you have never worked the corner to corner crochet color work method before I have all the tutorials you need to get started.

I used Yarnspirations’ Caron Simply Soft yarn for my blanket – I love how soft this yarn is which is perfect for blankets. However, you could certainly substitute your favorite medium worsted #4 weight yarn to get a similar result.

Sea Life C2C Crochet Blanket Border
Before joining my squares together, I crocheted 1 round of single crochet evenly around each square. This makes joining your squares much easier. I have a tutorial for adding a border to a c2c project.
Once my squares had a single crochet border, I shuffled the squares around to find my favorite placement. Then I used the mattress seam stitch to sew my squares together. I joined the squares from the right to the left. First I joined row 1 together – crab, jellyfish, conch shell & purple fish. Then I joined the seahorse & octopus. Once they were joined, I added the bottom of the whale to the top of the seahorse & octopus. Then joined the mermaid and sea turtle together. Once they were together I joined the top of the whale to the bottom of those squares. Then I joined the right edge of the sea turtle, whale and seahorse to the left edge of the crab, jellyfish, conch shell & purple fish. Then I joined the pink fish, starfish, clam shell & stingray. Once they were joined together, I joined that panel with the left edge of the mermaid, whale and octopus. I recommend using stitch markers on the corners to mark each corner of your square as you are joining.
I wanted a quick yet unique border that would look like curling ocean waves. The Curling Waves Crochet Border looks just like curling waves or whitecaps. The perfect border for a sea themed throw!
And, the Curling Waves Border is just two rounds so you can finish your blanket quickly! Even though this border may look complicated it is just two rounds – a base of single crochet + chains and then a second round which makes the waves. The waves consist of double crochets worked over a previous dc post. I have a complete photo and video tutorial for the Curling Waves Border or you can also find it on my YouTube channel. Total blanket size with border ended up at 41″ x 41″. Perfect size for a baby blanket!
