Panda Crochet Square | Wildlife Animal Square CAL Part 1

Jan 26, 2024 | Crochet patterns

A Panda Crochet Square is part 1 of the year-long Wildlife Animal Crochet a Long event and a free crochet pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home!

Part 1 of the Wildlife Animal Blanket CAL – the absolutely adorable Panda Square!

Panda Square Wildlife Animal Blanket CAL

The square’s background is a soothing sage green that evokes a lush, leafy green bamboo forest. And nestled right in the middle is a lovable panda with a face so sweet, you’ll want to squish him!

This panda is ready to be brought to life by your hands, and he can’t wait for his wildlife friends to join him in your Wildlife Animal Blanket!

This panda crochet square is part of the Wildlife Animal Blanket CAL and if you would like all the details on this year-long event you can find it on the blog

Panda Crochet Square Pattern Details

All of these squares begin as a double crochet circle and then the circle is squared off for easy joining.  The main portion of the circle in a square uses all beginner-friendly crochet stitches – single, half double, double and treble stitches.

Once the main square is complete you will crochet applique pieces – eyes, nose, cheeks, patches, and ears – then sew them to the front of the square. Once all the appliques are sewn to the square you will embroider the mouth to finish.

Panda crochet square process

This square works up to a large 14″ x 14″ square. Perfect size for a matching pillow! And, if you love bear squares you might pair your panda with my Polar Bear Square for even more bear fun!

For my Panda crochet pattern I am using my single crochet cartoon Crochet Eyes.  These are a smaller version of the same crochet eyes I have used for my previous blankets and I just love how much personality they add! I have a complete photo and video tutorial for the crochet eyes to help you make them as well.

These squares make a great evening project so you can finish a square in just a couple of hours from start to finish!

My Wild Animal Blanket uses Red Heart Super Saver* which is a medium worsted weight acrylic yarn.  Very economical and with plentiful color options! You can certainly substitute your favorite worsted weight yarn – Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn!, Red Heart With Love, Paintbox Simply Aran, Vanna’s Choice, Big Twist Value, Caron Simply Soft, Caron One Pound and so many more!  Raid your yarn stash – even mix and match.
