This crochet moon Blanket with stars baby blanket is a free crochet pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home!
I recently designed the Winter’s Night Rhapsody Stitch Sampler blanket which is a fun winter-themed stitch sampler style throw. I released an alternative border edging for those that wanted a star border instead of the pom pom border. I came up with a fun mini star crochet border that I absolutely fell in love with!
I knew the star border would be fantastic for a baby blanket plus I love the large stars featured in the blanket as well, so I started playing around with ideas for a baby blanket to incorporate both stitches.
Since I wanted to add the moon to the blanket I started with the base of my Christmas Granny Square pattern and came up with this fun Moon & Stars Baby Blanket! I hope you love it as much as I do!
Crochet Moon Blanket with Stars Pattern Details
The Moon & Stars Baby Blanket is a fun and easy square baby blanket that can be easily customized. Featuring large stars that are worked right into the blanket – no sewing – small star appliqués that are sewn where desired on the blanket, a fun and cute star border and a moon happy face!
This main body of this square baby blanket works up in all double crochet stitches starting with multiple rounds worked as a circle which is then squared once the moon section is complete. Size of the blanket can be easily customized by working more or fewer rounds.
The large stars are worked into a ch-1 stitch worked between double crochet stitches – no sewing for these stars other than tacking down while weaving in the ends! If you would prefer to have your large stars more random you could change up the placement of your chain 1 stitches. Or, if you preferred to sew on your stars in a random pattern you could eliminate the ch-1 altogether and make the stars as an applique instead.
The mini star appliqués are optional but create a pleasing randomness to the stars. These one-round stars are so easy with simple single crochet and chain stitches.
The star border is an easy one round edging created by working mini stars around the outside edge of the blanket.
Maybe you want to go a completely different direction for your blanket or make multiple blankets each one different. Instead of the large stars substitute my large snowflake stitch in white, add the mini star appliqués in yellow and change the border to the crochet Pom Pom border in white. Voila – a completely new winter’s night blanket!
I have a complete video tutorial for the large Stars and photo and video tutorials for the mini star appliques and the crochet star border.
