The Bunny Square is a free Easter Granny Square pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home!
I am so excited to announce a new series of spring Easter themed granny square patterns that will be released over the next couple of weeks for free on the blog!
After the success and popularity of my Christmas Granny Square Blanket I knew that a spring Easter themed granny square blanket needed to designed this year.
I am currently working on the designs for the additional squares for the blanket but so far have the next 2 squares ready to go – a chick and a lamb – so be sure to check back for those.
I was determined to shop my own yarn stash for this project so I am using different colors of yarn to finish the individual squares which will give my Easter spring throw more of a patchwork appearance. You could certainly choose to use your favorite spring color and use it for each square instead. However, if you choose to follow my lead you shouldn’t need more than 1 skein of each color to finish your blanket. Yay!
The great thing about these squares is that they are so versatile. Mix and match the squares for your own perfect spring blanket. If someone loves rabbits you could use the bunny square pattern and then you could make your bunnies different colors. I know some little girls that would just love a pink and purple bunny blanket 😊.
All of the granny squares in my Easter Spring Blanket series are great for beginners, too! They all use simple stitches using primarily double crochet stitches with sc, hdc, and treble stitches for the main portion of the squares. Some will include portions of working in the back loop only and then working stitches into the unused front loop on the surface of the square. Several of the squares will have color work changes as well. For the appliques and embellishments, there will be some increases or decreases in double or single crochet stitches. These squares will be a great way for a beginner to practice new techniques!
I hope you have fun making your own versions! And don’t forget to share photos of your work – I absolutely love seeing your projects!
Bunny Square Crochet Pattern Details
I am working from the same base pattern as my Christmas crochet granny squares. All of the squares in this series work up to a large 14″ square. Perfect for pillows or to mix-and-match for an adorable Easter spring themed throw! These individual squares would also make wonderful wall hangings for your spring themed home decor.
This cute bunny pattern starts out as a circle using double crochet stitches and then the circle is squared off so you can easily join and sew squares together.
The circle bunny face is worked in a solid white color and then I use purple to surround the bunny face and square off the circle.
The bunny ears for this square are what make this one so special – extra floppy rabbit ears are sewn to the top of his head and frame his face. These bunny ears are quite heavy so you will definitely want to sew them very securely to your panel. The little ones will love tugging on his cute ears!
In keeping to the theme of my previous Christmas squares I am using the same pattern for the eyes and then just adding a puffy cluster stitch for his nose. Using a long length of black yarn I then embroidered his whiskers for just the right finishing touch.
I am using Red Heart With Love* yarn for my squares. There may be a few squares that will end up with some Red Heart Super Saver if I have a color on hand that works better. Red Heart With Love yarn is a medium weight #4 acrylic worsted weight yarn. These granny squares would be a great way to use up your stash, too!
