Coffee cup cozies are a great last minute gift idea or stocking stuffer.  They work up so quickly and always are a great way to add some handmade to your Christmas holiday gifts!

I recently designed the Beginner Coffee Cup Cozy using just single crochet stitches – great for a crochet newbie!  I adapted the base of that coffee cup cozy to include a large snowflake that is worked right into the cup cozy – no sewing necessary!

Crochet Snowflake Coffee Cup Cozy Pattern Details

You will begin the cup cozy by working single crochet stitches in seamless rounds without joining.  Then you will add a chain st in the middle of the cozy.  You can mark this chain with a stitch marker to keep track of it if you wish.  Once you have finished the single crochet base you will come back and work your snowflake pattern into that chain.  Really easy!

This cup cozy will fit most 18 oz travel coffee cups. I purchase the inexpensive plastic cups with lids at Walmart that can be used for hot or cold drinks. I paid $1 per cup – fantastic inexpensive gift!

And basically this free crochet snowflake pattern is a sneak peek of a stitch I am using in my Winter’s Night Rhapsody blanket coming up in January.  I came up with the idea of working my snowflake into a chain stitch for that blanket and knew it would be the perfect way to add a snowflake embellishment to other projects as well.

The snowflake design is made up of basic crochet stitches – just single crochet and chains – making this simple crochet snowflake so easy.  If you wanted to adapt the easy crochet snowflake pattern to make as a simple snowflake ornament, just start out with a magic circle and continue with the instructions provided working round 1 of the snowflake in the magic circle!

I am using scraps left over from my Winter’s Night Rhapsody Blanket in Paintbox Cotton Aran yarn* for my cup cozy but you could substitute another worsted weight yarn – great project for your scrap basket!
