This crochet pattern towel topper is a free crochet pattern for a modern ring towel topper by Nana’s Crafty Home!
This crochet towel topper works up so quickly in just a small amount of scrap yarn with the addition of two wooden rings. A functional addition to your kitchen decor or perfect as a quick gift!
I love towel toppers and have designed a wide variety of towel toppers over the last several years. Most of those designs would be considered more cute seasonal designs. I really wanted a topper that would work for year-round use with a farmhouse chic vibe.
I grew up with crochet kitchen towel toppers being a staple in my mother’s kitchen. At that time in the 70’s, the topper part was usually crocheted right into the top of the towel so the towel couldn’t be removed from the topper. Which meant each time you washed your towel you also washed the topper portion as well. The topper would then get those little bits of fabric pilling from frequent washing. And once the towel became worn it was hard to throw out the topper!
The solution to fabric pilling was to keep your towel separate from the your ring. No need to wash your towel topper along with the towel any longer! And since the towel is held by the rings this is really more of a towel holder than a towel topper.
I designed this crochet towel topper right after a complex and large project I had been working on for a while. This was the perfect project for relaxing and I couldn’t believe how many I could make in an evening! I had a hard time moving on to something else 😊.
Crochet Pattern Towel Topper Details
This crochet towel topper is made with just single crochet stitches worked in the round which means this is the perfect beginner-friendly project!
Worked in seamless rounds – no joining! Once your single crochet tube is at the right length you will sew the ends over wooden rings. This allows the kitchen towel to be removable for easy washing!
This is a fantastic project for your scrap basket. I used different brands of cotton worsted weight yarn I had in my stash. However, I think even acrylic yarn could be used for this project as well.
I purchased my 2.75″ wood rings from Amazon*. I really like the farmhouse vibe that the wood rings give the towel topper but you could certainly use an acrylic ring for a different aesthetic. You could use a range of sizes probably from 2.5″ to 3″ as well. The smaller the ring, the tighter the hold on the towel. If you have littles around that will be constantly pulling the towels off the rings you may want to go smaller on your rings.

I love how versatile this towel holder is, too. For year round use and gift-giving, just change up the yarn colors and the towel for the season. Which makes this great gifts for bridal showers, birthdays and Mother’s Day!
