A Tunisian Crochet Hat and free crochet pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home!
This beautifully stylish tunisian crochet hat uses a beginner-friendly Tunisian crochet stitch that looks woven.
I’m so excited to be participating in the Hat of the Month Crochet Along with The Stitchin’ Mommy and Oombawka Design Crochet! My contribution for this CAL is a gorgeous Tunisian hat with unique colorwork and classy pearl button embellishments. This is the first time participating in this event and I was so honored to be included.
This hat pairs beautifully with my previous release the Color Fusion Infinity Scarf and together they are just stunning! And the simple repetitive stitch pattern is the perfect mindless crochet project!
Tunisian Crochet Hat Pattern – Color Fusion Hat pattern details
Since this tunisian crochet hat is a match to my Color Fusion infinity Scarf pattern I released last week, I am using the same gorgeous Lion Brand Heartland* in Capitol Reef in a solid and then paired with the beautiful Lion Brand Lanscapes Fusion* in Flushing Meadows. They were made for each other!

This hat uses the Tunisian Full Stitch but we are making it really special by changing colors before each return pass. This allows the yarn colors to mesh and fuse together creating a woven like appearance. And, because we are changing colors before each return pass there is no need to cut yarn – just drop the current working yarn and pull in the other color to work your return pass. That means no additional ends to weave in!
Tunisian crochet is often considered a combination of crochet and knitting. This is because it uses a crochet hook, but requires you to hold all of your stitches (or loops) on your hook in the same way you do in knitting. For this reason, you’ll need a long crochet hook or a hook with a cable attachment to accommodate the number of stitches in your Tunisian crochet project.
Tunisian crochet involves a forward pass and a return pass where the work is never turned, and you are looking at the Right Side (RS) of your project the entire time. The forward pass and return pass are counted as one row.
The Tunisian Full Stitch is a great place to start if you are new to Tunisian Crochet. A very basic, beginner friendly stitch. And, I have a complete photo and video tutorial for you that will help you get started! (Subscribe to my YouTube Channel to get notified whenever I post a new video).
The Color Fusion Hat is worked flat as a rectangle and then seamed together at the end. And since the Tunisian Full Stitch has a tendency to curl at the ends, seaming the ends of the rectangle together really fix that issue!
Once you have completed the main section of your hat to the size specifed, you will add a few rows of traditional crochet stitches in single crochet. You could switch up to a regular hook but I just continued using my Tunisian hook for those rows. Once the hat is seamed together you will add a single crochet band around the bottom edge of your hat.
The Decorative Pearl Button Assortment are decorative and completely optional. I had purchased a Decorative Pearl Button Assortment for my Christmas Tree Decor Stands last year from Amazon and had some more on hand. I think they matched up beautifully with the pearlescent look of the Landscape Fusion yarn.
Once you have added your buttons you will cinch the top of your hat together. I have a complete tutorial for that as well. You could leave as-is or add a pom pom if you wish.
