This gorgeous fall crochet blanket features amazing fall themed crochet stitches that will be perfect for your fall home decor!
The Autumn Rhapsody Blanket design was born out of my love for stitch samplers and all things Fall! This fall crochet blanket was the very first of my rhapsody blankets. After many requests for additional seasonal stitch sampler blankets, I designed the Spring Rhapsody Blanket and a Winter’s Night Rhapsody blankets. My plan is to eventually add a Summer Rhapsody and a Christmas Rhapsody blanket to the collection.
This crochet blanket features several fall themed crochet stitches throughout which makes this a great project for learning new crochet stitches.

How to Make this Fall Crochet Blanket
The Autumn Rhapsody Blanket is bit challenging with more complicated stitches throughout. However, I have complete photo and video tutorials for every new stitch for extra help. And even though I classify this fall crochet blanket pattern as intermediate/advanced, that doesn’t mean an adventurous beginner couldn’t tackle this project! I have had several self-professed new to crochet people reach out to let me know they were so happy that they tried the blanket using my tutorials to help with any parts they found confusing!
If you have questions or need additional help with the Autumn Rhapsody Fall Crochet Blanket, you can join my Facebook Group to ask questions, get encouragement or to show off your progress!
I also have the matching Autumn Rhapsody Pillow free crochet pattern available for a complete matching set for your autumnal decorating! This is the perfect project if you want to try your hand with these stitches in a smaller project.

1. To resize blanket: chain in multiples of 12 + 2 for the foundation chain.
With a stitch sampler style blanket there can be some difficulty in providing stitch multiples to resize. Not every stitch repeat provided for the different stitches are divisible by the starting chain – not even the 120! I am providing the stitch multiples to hit several of the more difficult stitches as well as the largest number of stitches. The most important thing is to make sure each row ends with the right amount of stitches for the size you are making. Some of the stitches (like the popcorn row) you may have to “fudge” slightly at the end. This will not effect the overall look of your blanket.
2. There are several different crochet stitches used throughout this blanket. I have complete photo and video tutorials for each of the stitches used in this blanket. Any time you need a little extra help you can check out each tutorial all with photo and video – Lemon Peel Stitch, Sunflower Stitch, Falling Leaves Stitch, Granny Spike Stitch, Extreme Drop Leaf Stitch, Popcorn Stitch, Single Crochet Spike Stitch, Mum Flower Stitch, Sedge Stitch, Bobble Shell Stitch Border and How to Wet Block Pillow & Blanket Tutorial.
3. Makers got really creative with this blanket when they wanted to make custom sizes. Many added additional border rounds or added more rows of their personal favorite stitches. Look at this afghan pattern as a starting point for your own personalized fall blanket! Get creative with colors, too! I have seen this blanket in fun and bright summer/spring colors and it looks fantastic!

I must admit that I am completely in love with this blanket in beautiful fall colors provided by Paintbox Yarn Cotton Aran. If you would like to make your blanket in the same yarn and colors as mine you can find it on LoveCrafts. The Cotton yarn comes in small balls of just 1.7 oz so if you decide to go with the Acrylic Simply Aran yarn the balls have 3.5 oz so you will need a lot less in the Simply Aran. The individual colors are listed below in the supply list.
Unfortunately, since I originally released this blanket, several of the individual colors have become discontinued or are rarely in stock. The colors are shown on their website but are constantly in the “Notify Me” when back in stock category and they never seem to go back in stock.
Melon Sorbet – I recommend replacing this color with Light Caramel
Peach Orange – I recommend replacing this color with Vintage Pink
Seville Orange is now discontinued altogether and I recommend replacing with Glorious Gold OR Buttercup Yellow.
This blanket is a fantastic stash busting project – raid your personal yarn stash for your favorite color combos! To get close to my finished size I recommend using a medium worsted weight yarn in cotton or acrylic.

I chose cotton for mine for the fantastic stitch definition since my blanket will be more for show. However, I have been pleasantly surprised with the softness of the Cotton Aran yarn. This fall crochet blanket would also make a fantastic scrap and stash buster as well!

I wanted to create a blanket design that would be cohesive and balanced even though it would still be classified as a stitch sampler. Most stitch samplers are truly that — every few rows a new color and a new stitch throughout.
Even though the Autumn Rhapsody Blanket has many different stitches throughout I wanted to make sure the stitches would balance throughout the blanket even repeating a couple of the stitches to provide the balance I was looking for.
The Sunflower crochet Stitch and the Mum crochet Stitch are the unique fall themed flower stitches on either end of the blanket. I designed these stunning stitches specifically for this blanket. In fact, I designed this blanket around the idea of the Sunflower crochet Stitch! When this design started to come to life in my head the only stitch I knew that had to be in it was this one! The trick was making the design work and I am really happy with how they turned out!

Pattern Notes:
- Ch 3 at beginning of each row counts as stitch
- To resize blanket: chain in multiples of 12 + 2 for the foundation chain.
As written: Lap: 122 ch = 38” wide
- Throw: 170 ch = 48” wide
- Twin: 242 ch = 68 1/2” wide
- Full: 302 ch = 85 1/2” wide
- Queen: 326 ch = 92” wide
- King: 386 ch = 109” wide
With a stitch sampler style blanket there can be some difficulty in providing stitch multiples to resize. I have a Resizing PDF document with additional information on how to work the Extreme Drop Leaf section of the blanket with different sizes.

The new CAL is beautiful & I would love the challenge of following along to make it.
Thank you so much Ruth! So glad you like it – looking forward to seeing you there ! ?
I’ve decided to use Herrschner’s 2-ply afghan yarn, because I have A LOT of it. Will be include the multiples in your instructions to that I may make my afghan larger….using the 2-ply afghan yarn will not yield the 38″ wide as indicated in your description. TIA
I will be providing starting chain multiples for several sizes with the pattern so that should help you get to the size you want with the smaller weight yarn. So glad you like the blanket!
So excited to learn and make this beautiful blanket! Thank you so much for taking the time to do all this work. I am unable financially to join lifetime. I would love to, but my disability check is all consumed monthly. Again, thank you for your hard work and sharing so freely!
Janie, that is no problem at all – I completely understand! That is one of the reasons why I offer the majority of my patterns free of charge to the blog. I am so glad you like the blanket!
I already purchased my yarn and took advantage of the Lifetime Membership, I’m so excited and cannot wait till the release date.
Thank you so much for your support and I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s creations! So excited to share!
So looking forward to this cal they are my fav colours
