Size H (5.0) mm crochet hook

The square shown is made with the Sedge Stitch with a foundation chain of 29. I have also worked 1 round of single crochet evenly around the outside edge before beginning the Bobble Shell Stitch border. I do recommend a simple round of stitches worked into the edge of your project first before working the Bobble Shell Stitch border. You will be much happier with your finished project! Abbreviations:
yo = yarn over
st = stitch
ch = chain
WS = wrong side
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
Bobble: yo, insert hook into indicated st, yo, pull up a loop, (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 loops on hook (2 loops left on hook), yo, insert hook into same st, yo, pull up a loop, (4 loops on hook), yo and pull through all 4 loops.
Round 1: (working on the WS of your project), ch 3, dc in same st,
repeat between * * to corner, (bobble, sl st, bobble) in corner,] repeat between [ ] to end, sl st to 1st st.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
