Twinkle Twinkle Baby Blanket crochet pattern details
Oh my stars! ⭐️ The Twinkle Twinkle Baby Blanket is absolutely adorable and a very easy granny square blanket that is made extra special with the fun addition of simple star appliques!
This simple granny square baby blanket pattern is made with the classic, beginner-friendly granny crochet stitch. The basic crochet granny square utilizes chains and double crochet stitches worked in “clusters” of 3.
And because this stitch is so easy to memorize, this project will grow quickly and make the perfect evening crochet project. Have a last minute shower? This basic granny square blanket would make a great gift.
The Twinkle Twinkle Blanket uses Lion Brand’s Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling yarn* which is an acrylic medium #4 worsted weight yarn. I love this yarn personally and have used it in my Marjorie Pocket Scarf and Marjorie Blanket pattern designs. So many great modern and vibrant colors available!
Lion Brand is also offering the Twinkle Twinkle Blanket as part of a complete pattern/yarn kit at Lion Brand as well. Purchase the kit with the same colors or mix and match for other great color way options. I think this granny blanket would look fantastic in pastels as well.
You could certainly substitute your favorite yarn. In fact, you could even change up the yarn weight to a lighter or heavier weight yarn. If using a lighter weight yarn you will need to work additional rows to achieve the same size blanket. Just make sure to change up the hook size to match the yarn weight you end up using!

The granny crochet stitch is a classic stitch that will never go out of style! If you love the granny crochet stitch as much as I do you may also enjoy the following Nana’s Crafty Home free crochet patterns featuring the granny crochet stitch:

One of the great things about granny squares are how versatile and customizable they are. You can just continue on and make your square as large as you would like!
The crochet star appliques are very easy and made with just two rounds in simple basic crochet stitches – single, double, treble crochet stitches with the addition of picots to create the star points. If you would like to learn more about the versatility of picot stitches, check out my picot crochet stitch tutorial.
For coordinating accessories, crochet up several star appliques to create a bunting for baby’s nursery. To make a matching pillow, work rows of the granny blanket instructions to size desired for your pillow and add stars to the pillow for the perfect match!
The patterns we will be gradually adding are all free at Simple Things Crochet but will now also be available in the Nana’s Crafty Home Shop.
