A beginner friendly boho granny square crochet hat – the Ferris Wheel Boho Hat is fast and fun to make! The combination of beginner friendly granny squares with the simple and beautiful Moss Stitch creates a slouchy casual boho style hat.
This slouchy granny square hat looks great with or without the faux fur pom pom. The slouch is easily customizable to a beanie by reducing the number of rounds for the main body of the hat to make it more fitted as well.
I had some Lion Brand’s Ferris Wheel in Pink Marmalade* left over from my Sedona Ruana granny square pattern and thought a hat would be perfect with its short ombre color changes. The soft color changes work perfectly with the Moss Stitch I used for the main body of the hat really showing off the colors to best advantage. If you would like to learn more about the Moss Stitch you can find my complete photo and video tutorial HERE.
The granny squares on this hat give it a bit of a retro look yet the Moss Stitch combined with the slouch makes it modern and trendy.

Hat pattern as written will fit most teen/adults. However, size is easily customizable by adjusting hook size or adjusting rounds of your granny square as well as the number of squares you start with. For example, you could make a toddler size by making 6 squares of 3 rounds = 18″ head measurement.
I used a larger hook size for the main body and border of the hat and it helped keep the main body of the hat a little more loose which helped the slouch of the hat as well.
I purchased this set of Pom Poms from Amazon which had this fabulous dark purple pom pom included!

Notes about pattern:
- Brim of hat is made from 5 granny squares sewn together to form a ring.
- Main body of hat is worked in seamless rounds to height desired.
- Resizing hat: each granny square measures 4”x4” with recommended hook size. Go up a hook size to increase size of hat, go down a hook size to decrease size of hat. Granny squares have quite a bit of stretch to them so this hat will fit most teens – women adult. You could also adjust the number of rounds on your granny square as well as how many squares you do. For example, 6 squares of 3 rounds each = 18″ head measurement which would fit a toddler.
- When resizing hat, be sure to have an even number of stitches after the first round of the main body and hat band.
Special stitches:
Cluster = group of 3 dc stitches
