A free triangle crochet shawl pattern with tassels is a relaxing crochet project that will be the perfect accessory for your fall and winter wardrobe!
This beautiful crochet triangle shawl has a delightful woven appearance that showcases a blend of earthy and warm colors. The pattern features rows of cozy, textured stitches, creating an interesting and sophisticated appearance. The color palette includes shades of pink, peach, green, and soft yellow, arranged in gentle stripes that almost resemble the hues found in a mountain landscape at sunrise or sunset.
Each row builds upon the last with subtle color changes, giving the piece a dynamic, layered effect that mimics woven fabric. The gently textured stitches add depth and a touch of elegance, while the tassels at each end add a playful, bohemian touch, making it an ideal accessory for cooler weather or adding a statement to any outfit.
This free pattern would be suitable for adventurous beginning crocheters with its simple stitches in repetitive rows. The crochet triangle shawl pattern is designed to be versatile—draping comfortably around the shoulders or wrapping snugly around the neck for added warmth.

How to Make the Free Triangle Crochet Shawl Pattern

1. This easy crochet triangle shawl is worked from the top down starting at the center with a row of double crochet stitches.
2. Made with the same stitch pattern as all of the patterns in my Mountain Trail Stitch pattern series. All of the crochet patterns in this series use my favorite stitch combination – the Interlocking Arches Columns crochet stitch which looks woven!
If you love this stitch you can find all of the other patterns on the blog as well. The other patterns in this series are the Mountain Trail Blanket, Mountain Trail Beanie Hat, Mountain Trail crochet cowl pattern, Mountain Trail Infinity Scarf pattern, Mountain Trail Twisted Headband, Mountain Trail Arm Warmers and the Mountain Trail Pocket Scoodie! I also used this stitch in the Coastal Haven Blanket which is a center-out square throw.
3. What makes the stitch so unique is that you are working a row of double crochets with skipped stitches and then the next row you are “dropping” your double crochet stitches into those skipped stitches – either in front of or behind the ch-1 space created from the previous row. I have a complete photo and video tutorial for this stitch if you would like to make some of my other projects. Subscribe to my YouTube Channel to get notified whenever I post a new video.
4. The woven look is enhanced by using a strand of yarn from a second yarn cake – making sure you are starting on a different color in the self-striping cake as you work the rows. And don’t worry, you won’t have a ton of ends to weave in because you will drop your yarn and pick it back up when needed. However, I will have to say that this step isn’t really all that necessary depending on the yarn you choose for your project. With short color changes you will get much the same effect as you would working from two cakes!
5. Continue working your stitch repeat to the size desired for your triangle shawl – simply add or subtract rows!

6. Once you are at the desired size you will work a row of single crochet stitches along the top edge of your scarf to cover those ends you have along the edge if you were changing between colors.
7. To finish your crochet scarf, add a fun tassel to the two end corners if desired.
I hope you love making and wearing your Mountain Trail Triangle Shawl! I would love to see your finished shawl – send me a photo to share your make – tonya@nanascraftyh-bmqj.wp1.host or tag me on social media @nanascraftyhome.

I fell in love with Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek print yarn* with this stitch pattern when I designed the Coastal Haven Blanket and wanted to use it for again for my triangle shawl.
This yarn has a somewhat “tweedy” appearance with striping in short color changes! I chose the Tropical Tiki colorway as it really reminds me of those colors over a mountain meadow at sunset! These colors meshed together really create something truly special.
This yarn is a medium worsted weight yarn so you could easily substitute your favorite! If you find another perfect yarn for this crochet blanket I would love to see it. I am always looking for new yarns to recommend with this stitch pattern.
I also recommend Lion Brand’s Ferris Wheel as another great option with this stitch. Typically I will choose two different color ways that complement each other to create that lovely woven look at the end.
The tassels at the two end corners are completely optional but I think they add a touch of a boho vibe to this shawl. If you don’t love making tassels (I don’t!), I highly recommend the Clover tassel maker*. Really makes tassels so quick and easy!

- Chain 3 at beginning of a round counts as first dc throughout.
- Corners referred to as 3 dc or 3 sc clusters.
