Changing Colors:

You can have a lot of fun with this motif and change the leaf colors, I played with a few and they turned out to be my favorite. The color change takes place when you SS back down into the circle.

After you make your SS into the last 2 CH spaces, insert hook into the same stitch in round 1 that leaf was started in, yarn over with new color and complete SS. Continue on with new color. Here’s how I did that:

Granny Square It:

This next part is a bit tricky to explain so please do let me know if you need me to clarify anything. I will be attaching a round of Chains to the back side then working into theses spaces to make the granny square. This way the leaves stay put with out distorting them.

1. Carefully place your leaves in the manner you want them to permanently lay. I liked all my leaves to fold over the other leaf on the same side.

2. Flip the leaf pile over so the back side is facing, you may need to replace a few leaves.

3. Notice how one edge of each leaf has its stitches up for you to work into.

On any leaf, locate the leaf tips CH2 space, counting down the side the has stitches exposed count off 5 stitches and join granny square color yarn in the 6th stitch from leaf tip, CH1,

Prep Round:

Leaves are layered

SC in the same stitch you joined yarn, *CH4, SC in the 6th stitch from leaf tip on the next leaf,* 7 times, CH4, SS into the first SC stitch. (8SC, 8-CH4 spaces)

Prep round for granny square

Round 4:

CH2, turn work so the front side is facing you, (TRC, CH2, 3TRC) in the same stitch, CH1, {*3SC, in the next CH4 space, CH1,* 2 times, (3TRC, CH2, 3TRC,) in the next SC stitch, CH1,} repeat from { to } 3, more times, *3SC, in the next CH4 space, CH1,* 2 times, 2TRC in the same space your started in, SS to first stitch. (16TRC, 24SC, 12-CH1 spaces, 4-CH2 spaces)

Round 5:

SS in the next CH2 space, CH1, (DC, CH2, 3DC,) in the same space, CH1, {*skip the next cluster, 3DC in the next CH1 space, CH1,* repeat until you reach the next CH2 space, skip the next cluster (3DC, CH2, 3DC,) in the next CH2 space, CH1,} repeat from { to } 2 more times, *skip the next cluster, 3DC in the next CH1 space, CH1,* repeat until you reach the last CH2 space, skip the next cluster 2DC, in the same CH2 space you started in, SS to the first stitch of the round. (20 clusters)

Round 6:

Repeat Round 5, fasten off. (24 clusters)

Block and enjoy! I might keep mine around for my coffee spoon or something, they are so fun to look at.
