Previously I shared Kristyn’s free pattern for the Leaves Granny Square and this is the next pattern square in her series of a Year of Granny Square Motifs.
The Apple granny square features an apple center with a solid color or you can mix it up for a fun center, and leaf and stem. Use your apple as is for a motif or turn it into a granny square like Kristyn did for any project.

Granny Square It:
To turn your apple into a granny square first let’s mark our four corners. It’s easiest to start with the bottom corners, on the side where there are 3 humps.
- Locate the SS between the 4DC and 3DC clusters at the bottom of the apple,(the SS furthest left) from the left count 2 stitches from the SS and place a stitch marker in the 3rd stitch.
- Locate the SS between the 3DC and 4DC cluster, (the SS furthest to the right)from the right of the SS count off 2 stitches and place your marker in the 3rd sttch.
- Counting up the apple’s left side, count off 9 stitches from the stitch marker, place another stitch marker in the 10th stitch.
- Going up the apple on the right side count off 9 stitches from the stitch marker and place a stitch marker in the 10th stitch.
The stitch markers mark your corner spaces. For this round we will be working in the BLO, join your granny square color in the lower left corner stitch, there should be a stitch marker there, CH1,
