This list of crochet market bag patterns are all functional, practical and pretty crochet bags that work up quickly and easily!
I love crochet bags – all kinds of different bags! And market bags are one of my favorite things to make. Most use only one cake of yarn, many are made in one piece with little to no sewing unless you want to add a liner.
They are so functional and practical as well. Reusable, washable and eco-friendly which means you can take these pretty bags to the market over and over again – never use a plastic bag again!
I have included a few crochet market bag patterns I designed as well as several beautiful crochet tote bag patterns by some of my crochet designer friends. Â I am sure you will find one or two (or ten!) must make crochet bags to take to the farmer’s market this year.
What yarn do I recommend for making market bags? Typically you will see cotton worsted weight yarn recommended for market bags. Cotton is typically recommended due to the durability factor. Some cotton yarn options – Lily Sugar ‘n Cream (economical and widely available), Lion Brand 24/7 mercerized cotton* – the mercerization process gives the yarn incredible color and sheen which will last through multiple wash cycles, WeCrochet’s Dishie yarn, and Caron Cotton Cakes (one of my personal favorites!) which is a self-striping cotton blend.
I haven’t personally tried the following yarns but I think they would make good options as well – Caron Cotton Ripple Cakes which is 100% cotton DK weight self-striping yarn and Yarn Bee (a Hobby Lobby brand) Fundamental Cotton has been highly recommended by a reader.
