The Crochet Gnome Pillow Draft Dodger is a free crochet pattern by Nana’s Crafty Home
This adorable crochet gnome can be used as a bed or couch gnome crochet pillow as well as a draft dodger for your door. Perfect addition to your home decor for any gnome lover!
Door draft dodgers are usually used in winter by doors to prevent unpleasant cold drafts from coming indoors. They are functional but can still be cute, right?
After finishing my crochet gnome and displaying him in various places around my home I realized he is just as adorable as a bed or couch pillow, too! I actually have him draped over a tufted side chair in my office and he looks like an exhausted gnome coming down from a Christmas high. I smile every time I see him.
Crochet Gnome Pattern Details
This is quite a good sized crochet gnome. He clocks in at approximately 36” long x 15” tall (not including curly-q top of hat) with a body circumference of 18” after he is stuffed.
Which means that body is going to seem like it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r! There are a lot of rounds on that body to create that length so I would definitely recommend a stitch marker row counter. However, if you don’t want to keep track just work the body to the size you want and start decreasing at that point.
You are crocheting several different parts, stuffing and then sewing together at the end. Arms, legs, hat, nose and bag. However, you are using beginner friendly stitches throughout so definitely a simpler project.
The curly-q on the hat is achieved with a short length of wire that I have twisted to create the curly-q shape. Completely optional. I used a scrap amount of a plastic coated wire my husband had in his shop that was stiff yet still bendable. I bent the ends over and covered with electrical tape so the ends wouldn’t be sharp and poke through my hat.
II am using Red Heart’s With Love* for this oversized crochet gnome. A soft, medium #4 weight yarn that is one of my go-to economical acrylic yarns. You could certainly substitute with your favorite yarn!

The colors I used are spot on for a Christmas themed project but you could certainly change colors and match your home decor for year round gnome fun!
I used bean bag filler for the crochet gnome’s body instead of traditional fiber stuffing. So much easier to get a smoother finished appearance without bulges. However, you could certainly stuff with a fiber fill to make him a little more “huggable”. And I did use standard fiber fill for the hat, arms, legs, nose and bag.
I purchased my bean bag filler at Michaels and I am sure you can find it many other craft stores. It comes in a large amount (it is designed to be bean bag filler after all!) so be prepared to make several gnomes or use for additional craft stuffing purposes.
