This crochet Bunny Basket is a free crochet pattern that works up really quickly with bulky yarn. This little bunny basket is so cute and unique with a faux fur pom pom tail. Perfect for hunting Easter eggs this year!
Are you in search of a quick and easy (last minute!) Easter project the kids are sure to love? This Easter Bunny Basket made with Caron Chunky Cakes is a very fast make and using self striping bulky yarn makes it oh so easy!
I found a beautiful lone cake of Caron Sprinkles Cake yarn in my stash – I love that tweedy look! Unfortunately this yarn is now discontinued but you could certainly use the original Caron Chunky Cakes*. Both are super bulky size 6 weight yarn which means you get a good sized basket that works up really quickly. And there are so many bright and happy colors to choose from! However, you can certainly use any yarn weight you have on hand. A medium worsted weight yarn will yield a smaller yet still a good sized basket.
The complete video tutorial is now available. You can now view it here or find it on YouTube. (Subscribe to my YouTube Channel to get notified whenever I post a new video). For the video tutorial I used Red Heart With Love yarn which is a medium worsted weight #4 yarn which gave me a basket size of approximately 6″ x 6″ – perfect size for little hands!
Lots of fabulous texture on this basket using the back post and front post double crochet stitches. I have included a video stitch tutorial if you have any questions about those stitches. If you are unable to watch the video you can find it on YouTube.
This bunny basket features a super cute and fun faux fur pom pom for the bunny tail. The kids will love their very own bunny Easter basket.
The face and bottom are crocheted onto the top of the basket and with the addition of the small strap lets the kids carry their basket during their egg hunts. Or you can fill the basket with candies and Easter treats for a child’s Easter gift. For my original basket I used 3 small black buttons for the eyes and nose but I definitely think the addition of the safety eyes and nose ups the cuteness factor. Especially nice if you are gifting to a little one and are worried about a choking hazard. If you don’t have these options on hand – embroidery works as well.

Having a short strap will help the face and bottom panels from flopping forward. However, if you are having trouble with them being too floppy you could certainly cut plastic canvas to the size of the panels and sew to the back of the panels. This would give a lot of extra stability. You could also add plastic canvas to the inside bottom of the basket as well.
