A beginner friendly pattern for the kitchen – the Within the Circles Scrubby Dishcloth is a free crochet pattern at Nana’s Crafty Home!
I thought I would take a break from all of those scarf and cowl patterns I have been working on over the last few weeks — Misty Morning Triangle Scarf, Be Weaving Cowl and Cascading Colors Cowl — and spend some time working on simple and easy patterns that could be stocking stuffers for Christmas. Â I love to give dishcloths every year as they are so useful and can be made in such a short amount of time.
Within the Circles Scrubby Dishcloth
I have a love/hate relationship with scrubby yarn. Â I love the finished product — it works wonderfully with dishcloths and gives just the right amount of scrubby to make it so useful in the kitchen! Â However, I hate working with it especially if I have to work stitches into it. Â The stitches are hard to see for me and I have to work a little bit harder than I would like to paying more attention to stitch placement, etc.
So, I thought there has to be a way for me to get the scrubby onto a dish cloth without working into the scrubby yarn and came up with this really wonderful dishcloth. Â It is an extremely simple pattern and you could really crank these out for gifts, stocking stuffers or craft fairs. Â The basic premise is simply a round dishcloth worked with cotton yarn worked in the back loops only and then coming back with the scrubby yarn and working the scrubby cotton into the unused front loop of each round. Â Why didn’t I think of this sooner?? Â I foresee a lot of these in my kitchen and made up for Christmas gifts this year!
I did work these up in a smaller hook than I Love This Cotton brand recommends. Â The yarn has a recommended hook size of I (5.5 mm) which I used for my first attempt and it was a little looser than I like my dishcloths to be. Â I went with the smaller H (5 mm) which tightened things up a bit. Â If you like your dishcloths a little looser go ahead with the larger hook.
Scrubby on the top yet none on the back if you don’t need the scrubby!
If you would like to have the scrubby on both sides of the dishcloth it would be really easy to customize this pattern just alternate the blo rounds — one round of blo, next round in flo (front loop only) and then work the scrubby in the unused loops on both sides of the dishcloth.
I haven’t spoken about I Love This Cotton yet….the name of this cotton says it all! Â I really do Love this Cotton! Â The colors are so bright, the yarn has a nice feel to it and it works up wonderfully.
Have fun working on these pretty dishcloths!
