The Sassy Autumn Infinity Scarf brings the magic of the fall season to life, elevating your style while keeping you snug, cozy and wonderfully warm!
One of my very first designs (many moons ago!) was the Sassy Autumn Cowl. Using the same textured back/front post stitch combination in this cowl ended up becoming a sensation and so very popular!
One of the things I kept hearing from those that made and loved it is how warm it is. Many decided to make and wear it while riding motorcycles and loved how it kept their neck warm even on cold days riding the highway.
It just tickles me that motorcycle enthusiasts found one of my designs helpful in being able to continue enjoying riding during the cold months!
So, in keeping with that “go for warmth” theme I designed the Sassy Autumn Infinity Scarf. It takes the premise of the cowl and doubles the warmth! You read that right! By lengthening the rectangle you can now double up that area around the neck while still keeping it relatively flat which means it will still fit nicely under a coat or jacket. What a great gift of warmth this scarf would be.
Crochet Ribbed Scarf pattern details
This easy crochet scarf pattern is made with front and back post double crochet stitches throughout which provides a ton of texture! It is super stretchy, too!
Front and back post double crochet stitches are advanced crochet techniques that create textured and ribbed patterns in your work. They are variations of the basic double crochet stitch and are used to create raised ridges or lines on the surface of your crochet fabric.
By alternating front post and back post double crochet stitches in different combinations, you can create a variety of textured patterns, such as cables, ribs, and waves. Front and back post stitches add visual interest and a fun stretchy dimension to your fabric.
The Sassy Autumn Scarf is a very simple pattern combination of these stitches together. You will work the first row in double crochet stitches then begin the front and back post stitches in row 2. For row 2, alternate front and back post stitches across the row.
Once you turn for row 3 you will continue the established pattern – working a back post over a front post stitch from the previous row, front post over a back post stitch from the previous row. This creates rows of ribbing. So easy to keep going once you establish the pattern!
Once you have completed your rectangle simply fold together and sew. By placing one end over the other creating a V shape and then sewing along both sides of the V creates a pocket – perfect for storing your phone! If you plan on using the pocket for this purpose I would recommend sewing along three edges to create a pocket on the back side of the scarf as shown below.
The original Sassy Autumn Cowl used Lion Brand Mandala* but I decided to change it up and try it with Lion Brand’s Ferris Wheel. The color changes are shorter than Mandala and it looks fantastic! However, you could certainly use either or any other self-striping ombre yarn that you choose.
