infinity scarf crochet pattern

I was playing around with spike single crochet stitches and saw how beautiful a simple change of color from round to round creates an interesting and unique fabric.

This easy crochet infinity scarf with basic crochet stitches would make a great gift or the perfect accessory to your fall or winter wardrobe.

This lovely crochet scarf uses simple stitches throughout making it a good project for adventurous beginners.

I love how easy infinity scarves are to wear and style and they are so warm too!

Infinity Scarf Crochet Pattern Details

The main body of the Macchiato Infinity Scarf crochet pattern is worked in the round with a simple two round repeat.  One round of single crochet stitches worked as normal in the top of the previous rounds single crochet stitches and then one round of spike single crochet stitches worked over the single crochet stitches from the previous round.  When you change colors each round you get a really beautiful look!

Since you are working over the stitches from the previous round this creates a more dense fabric providing a lot of warmth in this easy crochet scarf!

Color changes are worked a little differently for this scarf.  You will not be fastening off the colors but instead pulling up a tall loop after completing your last stitch of each round.  You will remove your hook from that loop and insert in the tall loop of the previous round and continue on for the next round.  This creates seamless color changes from round to round.

For the edging of each side of the scarf I used the half double crochet stitch worked in the third loop of the hdc stitches from the previous round.  This stitch has a beautiful knit look and lovely texture. If you aren’t familiar with working in the third loop of a half double crochet stitch I do have a video tutorial for that stitch that will help you on YouTube.

I am using Lion Brand Wool Ease* yarn which is a medium worsted weight yarn acrylic/wool blend in two contrasting colors.  If you find wool yarns to be scratchy you could certainly use acrylic or cotton as a substitute.  I think this infinity scarf would also look beautiful with a self-striping ombre yarn in combination with a matching solid yarn.

You could easily resize this scarf simply by adding or subtracting any number of chains for your foundation chain. No worries about multiples with this scarf! If you wanted to make a cowl I would recommend working only half the number of chains in the pattern. Would work up quickly and no wrapping around the neck!
