1. The Patchwork Revelry Blanket Crochet Pattern is a delightful project that begins with 9 large granny squares, made using the same base pattern as my seasonal granny square blankets and Wildlife Animal granny square Blanket series.

2. Each square starts with a standard double crochet circle which is then squared off for easy joining. Clever color work yields a striking geometric pattern. Turning each round and dropping/picking up colors minimizes end weaving for an efficient, easy make.
I have a video tutorial to help you with the color changing for this square now available!
3. The squares have no distinct right or wrong side, allowing you to determine the look through creative color placement for a captivating patchwork effect. Squares are joined using the zipper slip stitch join—a flat, invisible join achieved by matching colors as you work.
4. The border features a simple double crochet design, enhanced with color work to maintain the patchwork theme.
5. Finish it off with chunky tassels at each corner for a cozy, stylish touch!
With 9 squares my blanket measured approximately 46″ x 46″ which is a good size for a lap or throw blanket. You could easily make your blanket larger by adding additional squares!

Fasten off. I’ve delayed weaving in the ends until the squares are joined, as some will be right side (RS) or wrong side (WS) depending on their placement in the blanket.
Join Squares
Arrange the squares so that the corners align with the same colors as shown in the photo below:

Join the squares by rows, then by columns.
Use a surface slip stitch seam with yarn matching the color of the squares being joined. Work from front to back by inserting the hook through the back loops of matching stitches on adjoining squares, draw up a loop from behind to the front, and pull it through the loop on the hook. The slip stitch will be visible on the right side (RS) of the work.

Continue working slip stitches in the back loops of both squares to the opposite corner space, changing colors as needed.
At the corner space, insert the hook through the back loops of the chains from both squares, yarn over (yo), and pull through both loops to complete the slip stitch.
Add the next two squares, insert the hook into the back loops of the chains from both squares, yo, and pull through both loops to complete the slip stitch.
Continue the surface slip stitch join until 6 squares are connected.
Fasten off.
Join the top of the connected squares to the last 3 squares in the same manner.
Once all rows are joined, proceed to join the columns.
At the previously joined corners: At the first corner, insert the hook into the back loop only (BLO) of the chain stitch closest to the stitch on the side being joined, then into the chain stitch closest to the last stitch worked on the opposite square and under the join, yo, and pull through to complete the slip stitch, chain 1 (ch 1).
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Border
Rnd 1: With RS facing, join blue with sl st to tan ch-2 corner sp, ch 3, *dc in each st to next ch-sp, work dc in sp, dc in join between squares, dc in next ch-sp,* repeat from * to * to next ch-2 corner sp, (2 dc, ch 1, switch to next color with ch 1, 2 dc) in ch-2 corner sp, repeat from * to * around, omitting final 2 dc in last corner, hdc join in top of ch-3. Turn.
Rnd 1 color changes: 1 side BL, 1 side R, 1 side T, 1 side BR
Rnd 2: Ch 3, *dc in each st to next ch-2 corner sp, (2 dc, ch 1, switch to next color with ch 1, 2 dc) in ch-2 corner sp,* repeat from * to * around, omitting final 2 dc in last corner, hdc join in top of ch-3. Turn.
Rnd 2 color changes: 1 side BR, 1 side T, 1 side R, 1 side BL
Rnd 3: Ch 3, *dc in each st to next ch-2 corner sp, (2 dc, ch 1, switch to next color with ch 1, 2 dc) in ch-2 corner sp,* repeat from * to * around, omitting final 2 dc in last corner, sl st join in top of ch-3 after ch 2.
Rnd 3 color changes: 1 side BL, 1 side R, 1 side T, 1 side BR
Fasten off.
Rnd 4: With RS facing, join tan to same join sp, repeat round 2.
Rnd 4 color changes: 1 side T, 1 side BR, 1 side BL, 1 side R
Rnd 5: Repeat round 2.
Rnd 5 color changes: 1 side R, 1 side BL, 1 side BR, 1 side T
Rnd 6: Repeat round 2.
Rnd 6 color changes: 1 side T, 1 side BR, 1 side BL, 1 side R
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Optional Tassels (make 4 – 1 in each color):
Using a 7” tall piece of sturdy cardboard, wrap yarn around height of cardboard approximately 40 times. Fasten off.
Cut 2 extra pieces of yarn approximately 12” – 1 in same color as tassel and 1 in contrasting color.
Slip yarn off cardboard keeping the circle shape, thread 1 12” piece of same color yarn as tassel through the circle and tie a tight knot to secure.
Tie contrasting 12” piece of yarn approximately 2” below first tie around both sides of circle.
Cut through yarn at bottom of tassels and trim as desired.
Attach 1 tassel to each corner of blanket.
Weave in remaining ends.
