Crochet Frog Hat – Free Crochet Bucket Hat Pattern for Kids

Jun 5, 2026 | Crochet patterns

If you’ve been looking for the cutest crochet frog hat pattern on the internet, you just found it! This adorable little bucket hat features the most charming frog face you’ve ever seen – complete with bulging eyes, rosy pink cheeks, a little red tongue, and even tiny frog toes peeking out along the brim. Whether you’re making it for your own little one or stocking up for craft fair season, this free crochet frog hat is going to be an absolute crowd-pleaser.

Okay, I have to tell you a little secret before we dive in — I am terrified of frogs. I know, I know. I can’t fully explain it, and honestly I’m a little embarrassed to admit it as the designer of this pattern! In theory, from a safe distance, I can absolutely see the charm. And the crochet kind? Completely adorable — zero threat. My grandkids, on the other hand, are absolutely fearless and love watching (and catching!) frogs, so this year for my birthday they got me a frog house for the backyard after I spotted the most amazing frog mansion on TikTok and couldn’t stop talking about it. So here we are — I’m the woman who is afraid of frogs, has a frog house in her yard, and just designed a frog hat. Apparently this Nana will do anything for the grandkids! 🐸💚

The base of this hat is my Essential Basic Bucket Hat, which is an all-single-crochet design that’s wonderfully beginner-friendly. The hat itself works up quickly and smoothly, so even if you’re newer to crochet, you can totally do this! The fun frog appliqés – the 3D eyes, cheeks, tongue, and toes – take the project up a notch to an intermediate level, but I’ve got tutorials throughout the pattern to guide you every step of the way.

This pattern is made with Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in weight 4 / medium, which is one of my all-time favorite yarns for kids’ summer accessories. It’s soft, durable, washable, and comes in the most beautiful colorways. For this hat, you’ll need Granny Smith green, Ecru cream, Pink Lemonade, Red, Black, and White. The pattern comes in three sizes – Newborn, Toddler, and Child – so you’ve got the whole froggy family covered!

Why You’ll Love This Crochet Frog Hat Pattern

Beginner-Friendly Base Hat: The main bucket hat is worked entirely in single crochet, top-down in continuous rounds. No complicated stitches, no seams – just clean, easy crochet that any crocheter can enjoy.

Three Size Options: This pattern includes instructions for Newborn (0–6 months), Toddler, and Child sizes, so you can make the perfect fit for any little frog fan. Great for gifting across a range of ages! You could also make one of the larger teen-adult sizes and simply add on the frog details for any size!

Perfect Summer Hat: Made with 100% mercerized cotton, this hat is breathable and lightweight – just right for warm-weather adventures. It’s a fun alternative to sun hats and beach hats that kids will actually want to wear.

Adorable Frog Details: The 3D eyes, embroidered smile, pink rosy cheeks, tiny red tongue, and sweet little frog toes sewn along the brim make this hat so cute. It’s a real showstopper – you’ll be fielding compliments every time your little one wears it.

Craft Fair Ready: This hat will be a fun seller at craft fairs and markets. Make up a batch in multiple sizes and watch them fly off your display! The materials are affordable and the design is eye-catching enough to draw people in from across the room.
