A Stitch Sampler Winter themed blanket – the Winter Rhapsody Blanket is a free crochet pattern at Nana’s Crafty Home! Full of texture and such fun to crochet — and it really is lovely! Highlighting several different stitches that mimic all of the things I love about winter — snowballs, snow drifts and dripping icicles — as long as I don’t have to drive anywhere, of course!
Winter Rhapsody Lap Blanket
I know we are finally closing out the winter season and should be looking forward to spring but this can be winter’s last hoorah! This blanket would also be fun made in fun cheerful yarn scraps as a great stash buster. This could be your happy scrappy yarn blanket, too.
Winter Rhapsody Lap Blanket
Featuring several stitches in a repetitive pattern — spike stitch, faux knit stitch, pom poms and the cluster stitch. The most unusual stitch included in the blanket is the faux knit stitch worked in the row rather than in the round as you would typically see it. I have included a video tutorial for you to see an explanation of stitch placement. The spike stitch even incorporates the faux knit stitch to give it a little extra special “pop”!

Featuring only 3 skeins of Rainbow Classic yarn* which you can find in Joann’s it is a very economical blanket to make. I fell in love with this economical yarn when making the Grapevine Afghan several months ago and have been waiting for an opportunity to use it again. The Rainbow Classic yarn is a 5 weight or bulky yarn. However, any yarn of your choosing would be fine for this project. Just keep in mind a smaller weight yarn would yield a smaller blanket than my final version. I didn’t use all of my skeins and probably could have squeezed out another round of repetition so you could certainly make this larger without purchasing additional yarn. My blanket ended up being a good size at 41″ x 45″.
