Coaster crochet patterns to add some homemade charm to your home. And, all of these crochet coaster patterns are free patterns curated by Nana’s Crafty Home.
Crochet coasters are such a fun and practical crochet project. These quick projects are a great way to add a bright touch of color to your living space while also providing a layer of protection to your furniture.

And, if you have a collection of potted plants, many of these crochet coasters could be used as a plant coaster as well! Mix and match for a fun eclectic mix of color and textures!
I love using up yarn scraps for my crochet coasters. Smaller crochet projects are a great way to raid your yarn basket of leftovers from other larger projects. I hate wasting even that last tiny bit of yarn!
I especially love making crochet coasters during the warmer months of the year. Great for on-the-go crocheting. Add it to your bag for summer baseball games, waiting in the car at practice or relaxing at the beach.

What yarn is best for coasters?
Since coasters are used to protect furniture from a hot mug or from the condensation on a cold glass of water on a hot summer day, I would highly recommend a yarn using natural fibers. Cotton, wool or bamboo would all be fantastic options!
- Cotton yarn is absorbent, machine washable and very durable.
- Wool is also very absorbent, heat resistant and very durable – great for projects being used and washed often. Will keep its shape very well and can be felted providing a completely unique look to your finished coaster.
- Acrylic does not do well with water and heat. At a high temp, acrylic will melt (and make a mess). It also doesn’t hold water well which means it will shed moisture – right on to your furniture!
While natural fibers are the best option for coasters, it doesn’t mean you can’t use acrylic yarn – just be aware of the limitations of the yarn you choose for your coasters.
So many easy crochet coasters in this list of free patterns! Most of these free crochet coaster patterns use simple, basic stitches. These projects will be quick to make, too! Perfect for gifts or as a quick decoration for your own home.
