• Form the Crown: Begin with a magic circle or chain ring using bulky yarn and the smaller hook; work increasing rounds of double crochet (dc) stitches to build a flat circle, following size-specific increases, and check gauge for the circle’s diameter.
• Build the Main Body: Continue with even rounds of dc in each stitch around to add height to the crown.
• Create the Mesh Base for the Brim: Switch to a mesh pattern by chaining 4 (counts as dc + ch1), skipping stitches, and alternating dc and ch1 spaces around.

• Extend the Mesh Height: Repeat the mesh round pattern for additional rounds to form the brim’s structure, then fasten off and weave in ends.

• I suggest trying on your hat after the mesh rounds to verify fit and length. Subtract or add rounds of mesh as desired.
