A chunky crochet scarf pattern to keep you warm all winter long!
This bulky crochet scarf is oversized with a knit-like texture and stitch. The arm holes make this chunky scarf so easy to wear and to style as well.
This chunky scarf pattern features an easy one-row repeat and bulky yarn for a warm dense fabric.
The Cherish Super Scarf is a cozy and stylish bulky crochet scarf with built-in armholes, offering both warmth and versatility. Designed with a simple yet elegant ribbed texture, this free crochet pattern creates a wrap that drapes beautifully over the shoulders, functioning as both a scarf and a shawl. The armholes allow for easy wear without constant adjusting, making it a practical and chic accessory for cold weather. Perfect for layering over sweaters or dresses, this design is great for beginners and experienced crocheters alike, working up quickly with bulky yarn.
I wanted to create a new design to complement the Cherish Hat I released last fall. Since I also wanted to make another scarf with armholes, I revisited my Arm Candy Scarf for inspiration to see how the concept would come together.
This chic chunky crochet scarf is such a gorgeous and warm accessory – dress up or down for your occasion!

How to Make this Chunky Crochet Scarf
For the full written pattern instructions for the Cherish Super Scarf, scroll down below. You can purchase the ad-free PDF of this easy and chic crochet scarf for a small fee. Or, become a Lifetime Member and never pay for a PDF again!
1. This chunky crochet scarf is made from a rectangle worked side-to-side so the foundation chain can be adjusted to any length.
2. To adjust length, add or subtract foundation chains according to gauge. The approximate length using bulky weight yarn for this crochet scarf is 110″.
3. Begin working double slip stitches in each chain across. The double slip stitch is worked with a yarn over (as if you were to make a double crochet stitch), insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch and all loops on hook. Essentially working a slip stitch with an extra yarn over.
4. Your stitch placement will be a bit different for this pattern as well. After turning for row 2, you will work your double sl st into the bottom front loop below the top two loops you would normally work your stitch.
I have a complete stitch tutorial to help you with this stitch as well!
5. Work the same repeating row to arm hole row. The arm holes are optional and you could simply continue repeating row 2 to size desired for your large bulky scarf. I love the addition of the arm holes for wearability and versatility.
6. The arm holes are worked by simply working chains and skipping over stitches. So easy!
7. You could choose to work your arm holes at any point in your pattern. If you would like the arm holes to be more centered in the scarf simply change to work your arm hole row at row 21 and then continue on in the pattern.

8. The next row will continue working a double slip stitch in each chain and stitch from the previous row.
9. Continue working repeat rows to size desired!
I hope you enjoy making and wearing this crochet super scarf!

I am using Lion Brand’s Basic Stitch Thick & Quick yarn* which is a bulky weight #5 yarn. I love the worsted weight Basic Stitch yarn and I was very excited to see the Basic Stitch Thick and Quick when I designed the Posh Panache Bucket Hat last winter. Unfortunately this yarn is now discontinued so I am currently recommending Lion Brand’s Hue + Me with tons of color options!
