Crochet Sunflower Table Runner free pattern

This sunflower crochet table runner is designed to match with my Crochet Gingham Sunflower Placemat – also a free crochet pattern on the blog.

I am so happy with how these two patterns turned out with a vintage country farmhouse vibe! Such a lovely addition to your dining home decor.

Sunflower Crochet Table Runner Pattern Details

This pattern is made with the single crochet Tapestry Crochet color work technique. I have a beginner’s tips and tricks photo and video guide if you need help with this wonderful crochet color work technique.

I am using Red Heart’s With Love* for this crochet table runner. I love the combination of these beautiful vintage colors together. I think it would also look fantastic with a plaid combo of black/grey/white. You do want some contrast for the flower petals – a darker outline will help allow the petals to have some definition.

Tapestry and Intarsia Crochet Color Work Technique

I also have a tutorial that will help you add traditional Intarsia crochet color work techniques to your tapestry projects. I will use Intarsia and Tapestry crochet techniques together in many of my tapestry projects. I will change up techniques using my best judgement for the specified project. For the Sunflower Placemat and Table Runner, I use Tapestry crochet for the gingham plaid sections and a combination of Intarsia/Tapestry for the middle sunflower section.

My Intarsia video tutorial will show you how to pull in your yarn from a distance as well as the best way to make your project reversible. Not strictly necessary with this project as there is a very obvious front side. However, a great way to practice for future projects!

Pattern written in US crochet terminology

Supplies:

Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Scissors
Tapestry needle

Approximate finished size: 12” wide x 40” length

Gauge: 18 rows = 4” / 17 sc sts = 4”

Abbreviations:

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
st(s) = stitch(es)
WS = wrong side
RS = right side

Pattern Notes:

  • Graph is worked in single crochet (sc) tapestry crochet technique.  Each pixel of graph corresponds to 1 sc stitch.
  • At the end of each row, turn and ch 1.  Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • Since all sts are sc, the pattern is written telling you which color to use and how many stitches of that color. For Example: “[CR 5, LB 5] seven times” means you will work with cream color for 5 sc sts, then light brown color for 5 sc sts, and work that pattern 7 times total across the row.
