A brightly colored bag with lovely texture. And so much fun to make! And you may end up having to make several once the kids see it. My granddaughters are all trying to lay claim to this one! ?

The stitch pattern is unique and creates a wonderful texture. I used this stitch for my very popular Just Peachy Hat pattern and I just knew it would make a fabulous bag!

I call this stitch a modified dropped double crochet. You start with a row of filet by skipping a stitch with a chain 1 and then coming back in the next round to double crochet in the skipped stitch. The variation in the stitch is created by placing the double crochet either in front or in back of the ch 1 from the previous round. This then creates a truly unique appearance just simply by this one simple variation!

I originally designed this bag as a way to use up some left over Caron Simply Soft yarn* from my Easter C2C Graphgan Blanket. However, I ended up with a ton of ends to weave in and I was really looking for something a bit more mindless. However, you can see how beautifully it turned out with the color changes so feel free to use up scrap yarn if you don’t mind the extra ends! ? A perfect scrap buster project!

So, I raided my stash! I found some Red Heart Super Saver in solid black for my main color. Then I used a skein of Red Heart Super Saver Stripes in the Fruity Stripe colorway for the 2nd. I think the brightly colored stripes make this bag mimic the wings of a beautiful butterfly! And so many gorgeous color options! ? Next on my hook may be this bag in the Parrot Stripe colorway.

By using the Stripes yarn, it creates a beautifully striped appearance without any work involved! You don’t have to cut your yarn from round to round — just drop and then pick back up into your work as needed. So very few ends to weave in!

I did not make a complete video tutorial for this bag. However, I did create a video tutorial for the modified dropped double crochet stitch. Also, if you are not familiar with crocheting a circle you can also check out my Everything’s Beachy Bag video tutorial which will get you on the right track. Scroll to the bottom of this post below the written pattern for videos.

Keep in mind when watching the stitch tutorial that in the bag there are rounds with the double crochet in front of the ch 1 and rounds with the double crochet behind the ch 1. In the stitch tutorial I only placed the double crochet in front of the ch 1.

To add cuteness factor, I found these little butterfly novelty buttons at Walmart that I added to the ends of the drawstring. However, these are completely optional!
